Every day, a staggering amount of paper is discarded after printing due to the standard sizes of printed materials. At Grape Lab, we redesign these almost-discarded papers to bring them back into everyday use. While the process of collecting and transforming this paper isn’t easy, it’s a labor of love akin to a librarian meticulously organizing books.
Rediscovered Paper, Thoughtful Process
We archive various discarded papers with studio members with disabilities, carefully craft them into memo pads. These diverse and irregular papers, once considered useless, are now beautifully repurposed into unique memos.
Meaning of “Zaturi”
The term “Zaturi” means “Small pieces out of standards” in Korean. Although small paper scraps from printing may seem negligible and destined for disposal, when gathered, they prove to be quite useful. We collect scraps of different materials and colors, cutting and shaping them into appealing, mosaic-like memo pads.
Creating New Standards
Each Zaturi memo pad varies in thickness, texture, and color, but all serve the purpose of a memo pad. If something doesn’t meet existing standards, Grape Lab creates new ones. The Zaturi memo pads exemplify this philosophy, transforming diverse, irregular scraps into functional and charming products.
